Abstract:

When managing for profitability, companies depend especially on access to good information on the internal aspects of financial and operating performance in order to allocate resources wisely. Our research among senior finance and IT executives suggests that European companies are investing most aggressively in IT systems that will provide greater visibility into internal activities and company-level operating and financial performance. These systems will, in turn, help finance executives guide management decision making as they strive to help their companies maintain profitability. But our research also identifies a potential organizational problem between finance and IT executives that could hinder companiesı ability to make management decisions quickly.
